MARA SEAWEED ACCOLADE IN FOOD & FARMING AWARD
Edinburgh-based MARA SEAWEED was named runner-up in the UK’s Best Food Producer category in the BBC’s Food & Farming Awards.
Mara co-founders FIONA HOUSTON and XA MILNE (pictured), chairman ROBIN WORSNOP and Mara’s seaweed harvester, RORY MACPHEE attended the ceremony in Bristol last Thursday.
Presenter Sheila Dillon reminded guests at the awards what an achievement it was getting this far – for Best Producer category she sifted through over 1200 nominations - by far the most hard fought category.
Said Fiona, chief executive of Mara, “It is a huge honour for us to be Runner Up for the UK’s most prestigious food award; coming from the BBC and Britain’s top experts in the food industry this is a huge stamp of approval of all our efforts so far at Mara.”
Xa Milne, co-founder and Brand Director of Mara, said “Seaweed is being hailed as 2015’s ‘trendiest superfood’ and has really entered the nation’s consciousness. It is hugely gratifying that all our hard work is beginning to pay off.”
Mara’s Dulse seaweed flakes are now available nationwide in M&S with “how to use brochure”.
