19% LEAP IN EDINBURGH START-UPS

Edinburgh’s business start-up renaissance continues with 1,779 new business incorporations recorded in the capital over the three months to September.

This is a 4.2 per cent increase on last month’s figures and a remarkable 19.2 per cent rise on the same period in 2014.

Some 247 new business start-ups were supported by Business Gateway in Edinburgh in the three month period, 14 more than last month, and 37 more than the same period in 2014. However, foreign direct investment into the capital is not so hot.

The FDI Markets database recorded 27 FDI projects in Edinburgh during the last 12 months, six fewer than the previous 12 month period to August.

A total of 17 investment or expansion projects were announced in the city in August - nine more than the number of projects that were announced last year.
