WITH LOVE FROM INDIE STREET

RUTH MACKAY

I don’t know about you but I do most of my shopping online. This week alone I will do my weekly food shop online, order my mother’s day gift online, book two trips away online as well as order and buy three birthday presents.

And that doesn’t include the shopping I do after a glass of wine with my feet up and my iPad in hand.

It’s no wonder our high streets have been in decline for years and the experts continue to look for answers.

However, one fantastic new company in Edinburgh might just have come up with a solution to combining the convenience of online shopping while driving footfall on to Edinburgh’s high streets.

Love from Indie Street was launched in November 2014 and offers a virtual high street featuring some of Edinburgh’s best independent retailers.

Browsing from the comfort of your couch you can shop all over Edinburgh to find that personal and original gift for the friend or family member who has everything. With around 60 independent Edinburgh retailers now featured on the Love from Indie Street website it combines the convenience of online shopping as well as offering a practical way to shop locally and support independent retailers.

Love from Indie Street is the brainchild of Rebecca Christensen. Created from a love and passion for independent retailers and a desire to support them, Rebecca talks about the importance of retailers offering a multichannel experience to their customers and particularly online.

It’s an understandably tricky balance finding time to manage and run a shop while at the same time creating and marketing an online shopping experience for your customers. And that’s the gap Love from Indie Street offers retailers – an online community that drives customers both to their website and the high street.

Intriguingly one of their growth customer markets are customers who no longer live in Edinburgh some of whom are overseas, buying gift vouchers for friends and family in Edinburgh.

Choosing from baby’s first hair cut gift voucher to a day chalk painting or the limited edition Man Hamper from Brotique, it offers some unique gift ideas. With the added value of knowing you are supporting the local community and independent retailers, it makes for an almost guilt free shopping experience!

It’s a creative, different and interesting approach to combining online shopping and the high street and one that I can see really taking off.

So if like me you often leave your gift buying to the last minute Love from Indie Street offers a convenient way to buy a thoughtful and personal gift that also supports independent retailers in Edinburgh.
