Awards keep coming for Edinburgh-based Valvona & Crolla, Scotland’s longest established independent specialist food shop and wine merchant. Long a Scot-Buzz favourite, it has just been crowned Best Independent Retailer Scotland for 2016 by readers of Great British Food magazine.
It was recognised for supplying customers with the highest standards of product and service, sourcing from over 3000 Italian and Scottish suppliers to provide top quality food and wine, as well as one of the largest whisky and spirits selections in the UK.
Established in 1934, Valvona & Crolla is family run by the grandson of co-founder Alfonso Crolla, Philip Contini and his wife, the writer and food journalist, Mary Contini and their elder daughter, Francesca, who continue to serve the nation from the original premises in Edinburgh.
Valvona & Crolla are on a roll when it comes to awards this year. They were finalists in the Outstanding Food Retailer of the Year category at the Food Awards Scotland 2016 and have been shortlisted in the forthcoming Decanter World Wine Awards 2016 for Italian Wine Merchant award and UK Small Independent Merchant Award.
